Soul Power - Single (1999)

· DIG IT (France) Issue #18
(roughly translated)

Argh! When the voice of Nikki Sudden rises on the second verse of "Opium-Den" it is frankly magic, that goes up by the feet and that shakes you the carcass square millimetre per square millimetre! And the solo of Freddy Lynxx, carried by the rhythm section of Jacobites (Carl Eugene and Mark), tears and cherishes, lights stars and returns to be posed on the tablecloths of Hammond organ woven by Terry Miles, another Jacobites of the adventure. The piece points out a little the "Penicilin to me" of... Jacobites, well yours. And then, a new disc of Jacobites? Sorry no it is Freddy Lynxx & The Corner Gang. It is Fred who sings (except on a verse thus) and holds the guitar on the two pieces of this single left on his own label Sucksex Records. Fred walks himself to the four corners of the world, England and Massachussets this time (New York the last time with the Kevin K band), and records with his pals of the corner. Under the name of Freddy Lynxx & the Gang Corner. One did not identify yet the musicians who accompany him on the other side ("Soul Power ", as its name indicates it...) one flambouyant Glam/Soul demonstration, but it is obviously heavy caliber. Unearth that urgently.

· MINDWARP (Finland) Issue #4

Now we are talking! The last Corner Gang singles I heard are far below this one. This is the best Freddy Lynxx stuff for awhile. Soul Power could have been placed on the b-side 'cause it's a cover tune. But the hell, if the song rocks let it rock on a a-side. Besides Freddy's vocals sound better than ages. You guys should have let Cathy Peters be more "on the top" (it's always cool when the chicks do that) 'cause she has great voice. Opium-Den is a frightening addictive song. Here Freddy shares vocals with Nikki Sudden and the guys do know how to sing. Terry Miles' hammonding totally gives a final killer shivers to the track. This composition of Corner Gang should make an album, at least one. Everything works like clockwork.

Courageous Cat (9 lives or maybe more) album (1997)

· ROCK & FOLK (France) November 1997

Guitarist soloist of prolific Nikki Sudden when this one is not with its Jacobites, brother in arms (Gibson six blows) of Jeff Dahl for his turned European, Freddy Lynxx takes here time to deliver its second album solo, before attacking the third from here the end of 1997 (in States and in company of others energuménes electrified of which is ex-Heartbreakers Walter Lure). But although a graduate of the school of the riff by Johnny Thunders himself, Freddy also likes to trot himself in the intimate atmosphere of acoustic songs. These are thus eight titles which testify to the inalterable faith and the touching sensitivity of cat-like able suddenly to flank great blows of claws (the solos of "No Pleasure Thrills" or "Torn And Frayed" of Stones). The eight other pieces show the animal out of its cage, with the head of the last grinding of the Jet Servant boys (today separated) and at the sides of the Jet Girl Big G, bassist of her state, which ensures especially of the relevant choruses and a song lead, beautiful to cut the breath on "So Tired Of You". Of a sadness fragilely contained in a delicate pride, "Burning Love Hashes" or "It Hurts My Memory" confirms that Lynxx developed an invaluable direction of the writing. The duet of Glen Matlock/Julian Standen was not mistaken there which produced four titles of regretted Jet Servant boys. I have received so many marvellous albums lately that reviewing them is getting a bit boring - reviewing is a dirty job, but I'm the man to do it! Freddy Lynxx, Johnny Thunders, Nicky Hopkins, Nikki Sudden and Johan Asherton: that's the group that made this record worth killing for. Freddy Lynxx follows J.Thunders' footsteps (I'm talking about the music only) without making himself a copycat. The man's got that certain touch that makes his music so incredible. It may be easy to play rock'n'roll, but Freddy has also find a true spirit and attitude.

What brings us to the new effort of Freddy Lynxx. Its own-produced vinyl is more attaching. A face 45 T, a face 33 T, and guest-stars as if it rained about it. In bulk: Nicky Hopkins, Johan Asherton, Nikki Sudden... Fred Lynxx is clearly a case. He pushes his obsessions thunderiennes in their ultimate cuttings off, avoiding the box dope deliquent with a disarming enough constancy. However it seems in these soft hours that one needs people like him. For him, the music seems an engagement and, through tenacity, it succeeds in digging an inextricable network which passes by Japan, Sweden, Zermati, of old Jewel, Senders, Little Bob, Jeff Dahl.
